Best Photo Spots in Bangkok at Sunset

By PicPal Team · Updated June 16, 2026

Bangkok hits different in the last hour before dusk. Temples turn molten gold, the river goes pink, and the city's legendary rooftops light up one by one. After two years of shooting here we've narrowed down the nine sunset locations that consistently deliver — whether you're after temple drama, river scenes or rooftop glamour.

Golden hour in Bangkok runs roughly 5:30–6:30 PM year-round (it's a tropical city, so the sun doesn't shift much). Arrive 45 minutes early — the light just before sunset is often better than the sunset itself.

The shortlist

9 spots
01

Wat Arun from the Chao Phraya River

The Temple of Dawn is misnamed — it's really the Temple of Dusk. Shoot it from the east bank near Tha Tien Pier, where the spires catch the last orange light and reflect off the river. A small longtail boat ride (200–400 THB) gets you out into the water for the cleanest angle.

02

Wat Pho courtyards

Half an hour before closing (5:30 PM cutoff for tourists), the giant Reclining Buddha complex empties out. Sunlight rakes between the chedis, and the gold tile work glows. Bring a 35mm lens for tight compositions.

03

Lebua Sky Bar (State Tower)

The famous gold-dome rooftop bar from The Hangover 2. The light at 6 PM hitting the dome with Chao Phraya curving behind it is unbeatable. Drinks are 600+ THB — budget for one.

04

Asiatique Ferris Wheel waterfront

The riverside promenade glows pink with the wheel as a backdrop. Free, busy with locals, and a great spot for candid lifestyle shoots.

05

Chinatown (Yaowarat) at blue hour

Stay out until 6:45 PM and Yaowarat's neon signs flicker on against a deep blue sky — that 15-minute window is pure cinema. Best around the T&K Seafood intersection.

06

Lumpini Park lake

The skyline reflects in the lake and the monitor lizards add character. Bring a wide lens. Quiet around the southwest path.

07

Phra Sumen Fort & the Khao San backstreets

White-walled fort, palm trees, a wedge of pink sky behind. Walk five minutes into the Banglamphu alleys for warm-toned candids.

08

Sirocco / Distil

The 63rd-floor open-air restaurant from The Hangover 2. Same view as Lebua but a different angle on the river. Sunset booking essential.

09

Eight Thonglor or Mahanakhon SkyWalk

For modern Bangkok — the Mahanakhon glass skywalk at 314 meters gives you a 360° sunset over the whole city. 1,080 THB entry.

Field tips

  • Rain check: May–October is monsoon season. Storms often clear by 4 PM giving the most dramatic skies of the year.
  • Traffic: Add 45 minutes to any cross-river move. BTS and boat are faster than cars.
  • Heat: Even at sunset it's 30°C. Linen, water, blotting papers in your bag.
  • Permits: Wat Arun and Wat Pho charge small camera fees for tripods. Phone and mirrorless handheld is fine.
