Krabi is karst country. Limestone cliffs erupt from emerald water, longtail boats trace silhouettes, and the sun drops behind the Andaman with the karsts glowing orange. After years of shooting here, these are the nine spots we send every Krabi photographer to.
Sunset in Krabi runs 6:00–6:45 PM year-round. The light from 5:15–6:15 PM is the most flattering window.
The shortlist
9 spotsRailay West Beach
THE Krabi sunset photo. White sand, towering cliffs, longtails moored offshore. Get there by speedboat or longtail from Ao Nang (200 THB). The cliff wall lights up gold as the sun sets across the water.
Phra Nang Cave Beach
A 5-minute walk from Railay across the peninsula. The cave, the cliffs, the turquoise water — arguably more dramatic than Railay West. Famous "fertility shrine" cave adds eccentric character.
Ao Nang Beach promenade
The convenient option — no boat needed. The longtails moored along the south end frame sunset perfectly. Best 30 minutes pre-sunset.
Four Islands tour (Phra Nang + Tup + Mor + Chicken)
A half-day boat tour that ends with sunset at sea. Book a private longtail for control over the schedule and photo stops (4,000–7,000 THB for the boat).
Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Sua) viewpoint
1,260 steps up to a 360° view of Krabi and the karst forest. Time the climb to top out at 5:30 PM for sunset over the green plain. Bring water — it's a workout.
Klong Muang Beach
Quieter than Ao Nang with the same west-facing sunset and even cleaner sand. Perfect for couples wanting privacy.
Hong Island lagoon
The hidden inner lagoon at Hong Island is otherworldly. Tour boats leave by 4 PM, but a private charter (5,000–9,000 THB) lets you stay for the golden-hour light bouncing off the cliff walls.
Khao Khanab Nam (Krabi Town twin peaks)
The two iconic karsts at the river mouth of Krabi Town. Best from a longtail at sunset with town lights starting behind. 30-min boat from Krabi Town pier.
Tubkaak Beach (north of Klong Muang)
The 12-peak karst view from Tubkaak is wide-angle paradise. Photographers will know this one — it's on every Krabi tourism poster for good reason.
Field tips
- Tide: — check it. Phra Nang Cave Beach is partly inaccessible at high tide. windguru.cz has accurate Krabi data.
- Monsoon: — May–October brings spectacular dramatic skies but afternoon storms are common. Plan around the forecast.
- Longtail noise: — real longtails are very loud — don't plan an intimate dialogue shoot on a moving longtail.
- Mosquitoes: — appear at dusk in shaded areas. Repellent in your bag.
Ready to book
Browse our Krabi photographer directory — most are Ao Nang based and know the tides for every beach. A 90-minute golden hour session covers 1–2 of the spots above, depending on boat transit.
